PB. I read this poem about 10 time until I finally realized..."hey! let's break this thing down to line by line and then go from there!" So as any reader would have to do i re-read it again and I looked up words i've never known. What I got from this is that they are possibly dealing with the differences of two social classes, rich and poor. As this starts out, the reader could almost get a sense of thought that she's peaceful from the imagery this poet portrays through saying "Loose silk blown against a wall" well thats not really the case. I liked up the word before that, "skein" and that meant a complicated arrangement or state of being. It goes on to tell, or so I believe she's dying from lack of emotion, she is very unsure and insecure. She is bore and she doesn't work and this random part then says that the poor will inherit the earth. She will no longer reproduce which leaves me hanging on 'why?' but what I got from it was that she's poor, alone, rich or she could even be spoiled. She is very lonely at the end but she's also very scared the speaker will talk to her. The diction makes it almost seem like a crime...She is bored from her life, nothing left for her, or, she's just really not all that sure. |
