Quatra Poetry Response: Friday, Feb 27
To grow an appreciation for poetry, one must read and ponder many different types of poems. This assignment is asking you to do just that. You will read a poem and write a thoughtful response to it which you will post to this blog.
Using the poem list given to you in class, choose four poems on which you want to ruminate. You need to pick one poem from each section.
Next, thoroughly read your poem using a strong analytical method. Annotate your poem to help you practice for the AP exam or class final.
Write your own personal response to the poem (what you liked about it, why you chose it, etc.), an analysis of specific poetic elements, or a combination of both.Your response must focus on the poem. Think about how the poem may connect with other written works that have similar themes or subjects. You can include these connections in your response. Also, you may discuss parts of the poem you found troublesome. You do not have to completely understand the poem to write about it. Length: no shorter than my example.
Last, your response must be posted on this blog website. The blog post must include:
--a creative title that hints at the content of the blog post
--a picture of your ANNOTATED poem (must be able to easily read the poem and see annotations--use a dark pen/marker)
--your actual response
--your initials (not full name)
Musings on Plagiarism: No consulting the experts. Interact with the poem yourself. Struggle with it; come up with your own thoughts about what the poet is revealing to you. Don't ruin your personal experience because of you must "know the right answer" to poetry. Engage.
